The Typhoon's Dangerous Wife

Chapter 177 - She Came Back.

The monitor was beeping. Loudly and endlessly. It was a sign that she was still here. She was still breathing the same air as him, she was still under the same sky he was and she was still fighting for her life as much as he was for hers.

The room was empty as everyone had gone out now. Including the doctors. They said it was up to God now. They all were liars. Big fat liars. How could they say that she didn\'t wish to wake up as this was the reason that she was responding to the treatment? Was he the same fool he was years ago that he would accept their lousy excuse for their failure?

No, he was a big man now. Could take care of himself and those he loved. And he definitely would take care of her.

So, he was sitting on the floor with his head on his knees and doing what he was supposed to. What he never did before meeting her.

He was...

Praying and praying.

He made a deal with someone who was even worse than the devil. They said don\'t make the deal with the devil and so, he made a deal with the God, but apparently, even He screwed him over. All of them are these days.

Their Almighty God already took a piece of him earlier and now He was hell bent on taking the existence of his life away from him. She was not the bane of his existence anymore but the reason for his existence.

She was his salvation, redemption, and the biggest sin, all wrapped in one package.

He stood up and walked near her. He kneeled on the ground and touched her pallid and bruised face.

"Don\'t leave me, Cat eyes. Please. I beg you. Don\'t take my reason for living away from me. I don\'t know how to live anymore without you. I can\'t even begin to imagine my life without you. Come back to me, please."

The woman was far, far away from him, while he was sitting next to her begging her to come back to him.

Desperation.

Powerlessness.

Helplessness.

And torment.

They all were his best friends these days. They were hellbent on not leaving him and had been occupying the biggest spot in his life. It was not like he didn\'t deserve it, but she didn\'t deserve all of this.

Deep down, he knew she would come back to him. It was only a matter of time, right?

She was everything he needed. He loved everything she had.

Her bravery.

Her wickedness.

Her strength.

Her weakness.

 Her selfishness.

Everything. He loved and needed everything she had to offer to him.

---

Thirty-two hours, thirty minutes, and countless prayers later.

"Hi," Long Jie whispered.

She blinked, dull eyes staring up at him in confusion, like she was wondering if it were another of her tormenting and unending nightmares.

If he was real.

If she was granted another chance in this life. Again.

If she didn\'t deserve it. Yet again.

She was lost. She still was. She always would be.

He almost lost her. Almost.

Death was so, so close to her.

Her body rejected the treatment. Rejected the medication. Rejected what this world had to offer to her.

She was dying but it was he who was feeling the ache.

He had begged Him and her to take him with her if she was leaving him alone to die in the world alone without her.

"Jie." Tears descended her eyes as if stars were descending on the earth.

He didn\'t like tears in her eyes. It was burning his heart like no other thing that had burned him before. But right now, he was ready to accept anything she had to offer. Even her tears. He was desperate. He was starving. He was dying. And she was his only visceral need.

"I\'ve got you, Love. I\'ve got you. I\'m right here. I\'m never leaving you alone ever."

He touched her face so softly, so gently that she would break if he tried harder. Her tears came with even more fleetness as she felt his touches.

"Is it hurting somewhere?" Long Jie asked in bewilderment as her tears didn\'t stop. He has never seen her with such anguished expressions ever. What had just happened to her?

She tried to shake her head but couldn\'t, but Long Jie understood what she was meaning to gesture.

"Let me call the doctor," said Long Jie as he stood up in bewilderment, confusion, and dismay.

"Don\'t," came her reply in a very hoarse voice. He turned to look at her. "P-please don\'t call anyone right now. Please…"

"Zhenyi--"

"Please, just for a few minutes. I\'m not in pain. Just don\'t want to see anyone right now."

Zhenyi\'s request was very odd and Long Jie had no intention to fulfill it either but one look at her and he couldn\'t move. She was trying to stop the sobs from escaping her throat. In her condition, it was very difficult to even cry and he could see the pain on her face.

But her eyes carried a different kind of ache. The kind of ache which was not physical but rather emotional. It was piercing his heart into a gazillion pieces and yet he didn\'t know how to console her.

"Please." And that was it. His undoing.

He stopped and kneeled beside her in defeat.

"I can\'t stop it," she said looking at him as if she was on the verge of collapsing and she truly was.

Long Jie understood that she was trying to say that she couldn\'t stop crying.
